Gresham Wagner and the Spark Performance team earned a second place finish in the opening round of the 2020 Battery Tender MX-5 Cup season. After qualifying in 3rd, Wagner lead the most laps in race 1 before falling to 2nd on the final lap. Wagner and fellow podium finishers Robert Noaker and teammate Selin Rollan battled for the lead all race before a showdown at the end. While an opportunity at a victory slipped away, a second place finish was a strong start to the 2020 season.
Unfortunately, Wagner had mechanical problems in race 2 and did not make it to the checkered flag, being credited with 18th place. Wagner had started from 3rd and led the race early before a brake failure and engine overheating saw him fail to finish. After the missed points in race 2, Wagner leaves Road America 7th in the championship.
The series heads to Mid-Ohio on August 6-9, where Wagner scored a double podium result last year.
