After a puncture in the final minutes of Race 1 denied Wagner his third podium in three races, he and the team rebounded in Race 2 with a Win for Wagner and 2nd place for teammate Devin Anderson.
After qualifying on pole for Race 1, Wagner was swarmed by faster cars on the run to Turn 1 and shuffled back to third place. After a brief battle with second place, Wagner gained the position and set off reeling in leader Carter Fartuch. However, the hot and abrasive track took its toll, and high stress and wear rates led to a tire puncture approaching the final laps of the race. Wagner retired from the race, and was credited with a 10th place finish in-class. Teammate Devin Anderson, following in third for the majority of the race, inherited Wagner’s spot and represented TechSport Racing on the podium.
In Race 2, Wagner started in third place, with Anderson on pole. Anderson and Wagner quickly settled into first and second, respectively, before the first safety car intervention of the race. On the restart, Anderson slipped wide in Turn 1, allowing Wagner to inherit the lead. The two teammates continued leading in first and second until a late full-course yellow saw the race end behind the safety car.
Wagner, Anderson, and the team’s efforts at the event led to their first 1-2 finish of the season, and strong momentum heading into the next SRO Touring Car America event at VIRginia International Raceway, the home race for both Wagner and TechSport Racing.
