Even without contesting the full IMSA Mazda MX-5 Cup schedule in 2025, Gresham Wagner remained one of the series’ most impactful drivers whenever he appeared on the grid. Competing on a selective, race-by-race basis with RAFA Racing Team by MMR, Wagner immediately returned to the front of the field.
In familiar fashion, he delivered podiums, pole-contending qualifying performances, and a victory against one of the deepest MX-5 Cup fields in recent memory. His standout weekend came at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, where he followed up a podium finish in Race 1 with a hard-fought victory in Race 2, once again showcasing the racecraft and composure that made him a series champion just one season earlier.
The partial-season effort came together naturally through Wagner’s existing relationship with both the RAFA Racing and MMR organizations. While competing full-time in GT4 America with RAFA Racing, opportunities opened for him to step into the RAFA Racing by MMR MX-5 Cup entries throughout the year. Already serving as the driver coach for the program, and with MMR serving as Wagner’s former championship-winning team, the transition back into the paddock was seamless, allowing him to quickly settle into a familiar environment and immediately compete for results.
Despite limited appearances, Wagner consistently proved he could still contend for wins every time he strapped back into an MX-5 Cup car, adding another impressive chapter to his continued success in the series.
